DUCATI 996 S

The Ducati company whose name is synonym for racing motorcycles, initially was involved in manufacturing of electrical components. Founded by Ducati family in 1926, company initially wore the official title of “The Societa Radio Brevetti Ducati” and soon became a world leader in the production of electronic components, radios and even cameras. The company has been gradually growing, employing over 11.000 workers before it was destroyed during the bombing of Borgo Panigale in World War II 1944.

Post-war life in Italy was extremely tough. The industry that produced transport for Italians was dismantled by the war, and the economy was in horrible condition. People needed something small and cheap that could be used as a transport. Bicycles have become the main means of transport.  But in 1946 everything changed. On the Milan show Ducati brothers presented the Cucciolo.  By 1950, Ducati had produced over 200.000 Cucciolos, and by the end of its production engine was increased to 65 ccm with power of fantastic 2 HP.

Production of Cucciolo continued during the beginning of the 50’s and until 1953 Ducati’s success from racing made a brand name for the company. Ducati was divided into two parts – the Ducati Elettronica SpA and Ducati Meccanica SpA, which took over the factory in Borgo Panigale. In 1954 they presented the legend, a young engineer from Lugo di Romagna – Fabio Taglioni.  Taglioni was the man who was responsible for the most famous Ducati-HP innovations, including the famous Desmodromic valve system.

50’s have brought an incredible expansion of motor sport in Italy….several hundred private companies were competing. Ducati quickly became a synonym for victory.

60’s were relatively successful years for Ducati in racing field taking in consideration that Japanese bikes quickly became dominant.

Just when Ducati fans were use to the constant support and top distribution from factory, company announced its financial difficulties. In 1984 control of Ducati operations was taken over by Cagiva, and luckily for enthusiasts Cagiva was interested in motorcycle production. Ducati has dedicated a large part of its production to creating engines that driven Cagiva motorcycles, and in that way was able to continue its participation in the race.

Victory in WSBK meant that the 888 became a legend. Doug Polen won 17 times with 888 in 1991 and 9 times in 1992, bringing a third championship. Until 1992 851/888 has reached its maximum, the machine was forced to the maximum and the chassis was no longer able to maintain that strength/power. In 1993 title went back to Japan thanks to Kawasaki team, which caused Ducati to make perhaps the best step in its history…..in 1994 the new superbike was presented – 916.

After the withdrawal of 888, Ducati needed an engine that would be able to conquer the world, and establish Ducati as the first competitor for the championship title. They managed to do previously mentioned with 916 ( later 996 and 998 ). One of the most beautiful motorcycle ever made, instantly recognizable as a Ducati. But look is not the only thing that is good at it – do not forget that, when properly tuned, this is motorcycle with the best handling in the world, and power delivery is still unattainable for “Japanese four”. Fantastic motorcycle with a few minor flaws ( mainly service intervals and maintenance ), has become a dream in the world of sports motorcycles.

In the text above , we have deliberately mentioned base/forerunner of story that we want to tell.

Ducati 996 in a variety of designs has been produced from 1999 to 2002.

In this period three different models of 996 were produced: basic, 996 S, 996 SPS ( model made only for Europe ).

What is it that Ducati 996 S differs from all other motorcycles? The more You look into it, the more incredible details You notice. The smallest of this motorcycle parts are looking as if they came from an „art studio“.   From the „show“ fork, over „brembo“ calipers, discs…..“marchesini“ wheels up to „öhlins“ shock absorbers….996 S is ready for the highest achievements and fullfilment of the most extravagant moto-wishes. They have a reputation for being unreliable, unlike the „Japanese four“. The foregoing is completely inaccurate statement if You keep it and service it exactly as it should be done ( written in manual ).

Design maximum, technical maximum and completely perfect sports motorcycle. While riding, it is absolutely unbelievable how little time You need and how, without any special additional force, You come to a serious speed with briliant handling.  This motorcycle invites You to aggressive driving, prays…“please do not go slow and do not torchure me with mild driving“ and all that with its perfect technicalities, mentioned in the text above. It is very important to say that all the exciting things You can do with this motorcycle are accompanied with extreme safety this motorcycle offers.

Extremely popular in the „Hollywood“ and has been used in movies: „The Skulls 2“, „The Matrix Reloaded“….

Although Ducati in its portfolio has motorcycles belonging to other categories, it is certain that this brand is linked to the production of high-performance sport motorcycles and timeless design, and for many – without equal.

Therefore, at the end of the story we are proud to present Ducati 996 S. Produced in 2002. Through pictures and specifications, enjoy the offered model
